Frequently Asked Questions

What is Incinerator Bottom Ash?

Incinerator Bottom Ash (IBA) is a sustainable construction aggregate derived from the incineration of municipal waste at energy-from-waste (EfW) processing facilities.

Is Ecoblend MA hazardous?

Ecoblend MA contains Incinerator Bottom Ash (IBA) aggregate, classified as non-hazardous according to the Environmental Services Association (ESA) IBA sampling and testing protocol.

Can I use Ecoblend MA anywhere?

Ecoblend MA contains Incinerator Bottom Ash Aggregate (IBAA), which cannot be used in environmentally sensitive areas, such as Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), and therefore needs to be used according to the Environment Agency’s Regulatory Position Statement 247.

A reputable supplier will complete these checks for you and return all relevant documentation.

What impact does Ecoblend MA have on the environment?

Every tonne of Ecoblend MA used instead of a purely natural aggregate diverts 231 black bags of municipal waste from landfills and saves 0.63 tonnes of natural resources from being quarried*.

Ecoblend MA also has a reduced carbon footprint compared to natural materials, primarily due to its locality and reduced haulage requirements.
