Overview
The new multi-use games area formed part of improvements to the public realm infrastructure at a Secondary Academy in Southeast London. The groundworks contractor required a reliable, SHW 803-compliant sub-base to ensure smooth installation and timely delivery. Having previously encountered issues with other recycled products, they selected Type 1 Ecoblend® CA, for its proven reliability, consistent quality, and ease of handling.
Project Scope
The project required the construction of a high-quality, durable sub-base for a 2,500m2 multi-use play area. With the site on a tight delivery schedule, product consistency and service reliability were critical.
Material Requirements
556 tonnes of Type 1 Ecoblend CA were delivered, with additional technical support and a site visit by our commercial team to ensure smooth progress. The material was chosen due to its:

Outcome
The games area was completed on time and to specification, delivering dependable compaction, excellent spread rate, and a finish that exceeded expectations. Unlike other recycled products used by the contractor, it maintained integrity in wet weather and provided a level of consistency comparable to primary alternatives. The success of this project has reinforced our client’s confidence in Ecoblend CA as their go-to sub-base solution for future works.
When asked about the use of Type 1 CA, the projects’ procurement manager reported an exceptionally positive experience, noting that the quality was consistently high, and the material was easy to handle and install. They compared its performance favourably to that of limestone or granite Type 1.
